  1. What is biometrics?
     Biometrics in general is the science of measuring biological data. In information technology, biometrics refers to technologies for authenticating a person based on a physiological or behavioral characteristic.
     Physiological ("static") characteristics are based directly on parts of the human body (e.g. face, fingerprint, iris), behavioral ("dynamic") characteristics are based on an action taken by a person (e.g. voice, gait, lip movement).

  2. What is multimodal biometrics?
     BioID is designed to enable the use of several different biometrics. Any of them can be combined in a so-called "fusion" to get one result, which has a better accuracy than using each of the single modalities. This technique of fusing together several biometrics is called multimodal biometrics.
     Special advantages can be gained by fusing static and dynamic traits (see biometrics).

  3. What is the BioID SDK?
     The BioID SDK is not a shrink-wrapped product but a Software Development Kit. With our SDK you can integrate biometrics in your own product or in products you are already using. So you don't have to discard your existing systems and replace it with BioID. With our SDK you can develop your own biometric solution tailored to your needs.

  1. What are the system requirements of the BioID SDK?
     Supported Operating Systems:
     Windows 2000 SP1, Windows XP, Windows NT4 SP6
     Processor: min. 1 GHz (Intel Pentium III or comparable)
     RAM: 256 MB or more (for a BioID Server 512 MB or more are recommended)
     HD: ~50 MB (Note: the BioID Server needs additional space for the database)
     Camera/Framegrabber: Microsoft DirectShow compatible interface (VFW, WDM)
